Dave Bautista set to lead ‘God of War’ series as Kratos

Los Angeles [US], August 21 (ANI): Hollywood actor Dave Bautista is all set to take up the mantle of the 'God of War' as Kratos, leading the upcoming TV series, which is based on the video game franchise, according to Variety.
Earlier this month, the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' star was said to be in talks for the role after Ryan Hurst, who was previously announced as Kratos, suffered a torn bicep injury requiring surgery. As a result, this would have delayed production into 2027.
Shortly after, it was announced that Amazon and Sony, which are co-producing, were recasting for the part.
Prime Video has given the 'God of War' show two seasons set to shoot back-to-back. The shooting for the show began in February this year in Vancouver. With Bautista now locked in as Kratos, the show's production is expected to resume in the coming weeks.
All the scenes featuring Hurst will now have to be reshot.
The show will follow the story of the two most recent 'God of War' games, where Kratos must raise his ten-year-old son Atreus while battling gods of the Norse pantheon.
"Father and son Kratos and Atreus embark on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. Through their adventures, Kratos tries to teach his son to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better human," states the official logline, as per Variety.
Callum Vinson remains on board to portray Kratos' son Atreus.
Other cast members are Max Parker as Heimdall, Olafur Darri Olafsson as Thor, Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, Danny Woodburn and Jeff Gulka as brothers Brok and Sindri, and Ed Skrein as Baldur.
The first two episodes of 'God of War' will be directed by Frederick EO Toye.
Maril Davis will serve as the executive producer alongside Cory Barlog, Naren Shankar, Matthew Graham, Asad Qizilbash, Jeff Ketcham, Hermen Hulst, Roy Lee, Brad Van Arragon, Joe Menosky, Marc Bernardin, Tania Lotia, and Ben McGinnis.
It is co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios in association with PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions. (ANI)
