New Delhi [India], October 27 (ANI): The Congress party is gearing up for a massive show of strength with the INDIA bloc rally at the Ramlila Maidan in the Capital on November 1. Senior Congress leader KC Venugopal on Tuesday inspected the venue along with leaders of the Delhi.
Speaking to ANI, Congress MP Pawan Khera said that "The entire Delhi leadership is here right now to make arrangements for the rally. Venugopal ji is coming here, after which he will give everyone instructions. Preparations are being made accordingly."
He added that the programme would involve the INDIA bloc and other participants from across the country.
Meanwhile, Congress general secretary KC Venugopal alleged that police had obstructed preparations for a proposed event ahead of the INDIA bloc's November 1 rally at Ramlila Maidan.
Venugopal said the party had initially sought permission to organise an event at the Ashoka Hotel lawn but was denied permission after police intervention. He further alleged that police personnel stopped party workers from setting up infrastructure at another venue.
The Congress leader said the proposed October 30 programme was planned as a curtain-raiser for the November 1 rally and march against alleged electoral irregularities.
Venugopal further accused the Centre of attempting to prevent the opposition from raising concerns over electoral rolls and alleged irregularities.
"We are not going to succumb to their pressure. We know how to conduct the programme," he said, adding that the party would announce its next course of action.
Venugopal also alleged that the government was attempting to suppress dissent and restrict political parties from criticising its actions.
Referring to the November 1 rally, he said around 21 political parties were expected to participate in the programme at Ramlila Maidan.
The INDIA bloc has been raising concerns over alleged electoral irregularities under its campaign against "vote chori". (ANI)
