Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], October 19 (ANI): Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara on Monday replied to Union Minister H D Kumaraswamy’s allegations regarding former Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah's sting operations, saying the state government would handle it, adding that Chief Minister DK Shivkumar was aware of all facts.
“The Chief Minister is aware of the facts, and we all know what is happening. As a government, we will handle it. The Chief Minister is competent enough to handle this, and all of us are with him. The way this is being blown out of proportion is concerning, but the Chief Minister is aware of the facts, and we are all with him. We will handle it as a government,” he said.
On the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Parameshwara alleged that the exercise had led to the removal of a large number of legitimate voters’ names and called for scrutiny of the process.
He claimed that in Karnataka, 1.08 crore voters' names were removed and that this is happening throughout the country.
“SIR is something we have never heard of in terms of manipulations at this level. SIRs have been conducted earlier as well, but the removal of rightful voters’ names from electoral rolls on this magnitude has never happened. In Karnataka alone, 1.08 crore names have been removed under different categories. We contend that there are certain flaws…Rahul Gandhi has taken up this issue seriously across the country. This is not happening in Karnataka alone. Karnataka is one part of it, but this is happening throughout the country," he said.
"If crores of voters’ names are removed from electoral rolls in Karnataka and across India without being questioned, what would you expect? Would you call that a fair preparation of the electoral roll?" he added.
Meanwhile, Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel and JDS State President H. D. Kumaraswamy on Thursday (October 15) alleged that Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and journalist Rakesh Shetty had conspired to conduct a sting operation against former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, ultimately leading to his removal from office.
Speaking to the media, Kumaraswamy alleged that Siddaramaiah had fallen victim to a political conspiracy orchestrated by the Chief Minister and a journalist whom he accused of engaging in blackmail.
Kumaraswamy demanded the arrest of those allegedly involved in the conspiracy and said Shivakumar should be known as the “Sting Samrat of Karnataka”.
He alleged that a coordinated operation had been carried out to force Siddaramaiah out of the Chief Minister’s post and that the Congress high command had been misled in the process.
Kumaraswamy demanded an explanation from Shivakumar on why the file concerning the sting operation was brought before the Cabinet and to disclose its contents. (ANI)
